A young man named Lucas Ransom was killed off the
coast of California, Friday, October 22nd. He was attacked
by a shark who apparently came out of nowhere and bit his
leg off. The boy died from loss of blood.

His name intrigued me, so I decided to research it a bit.
First of all, the name Lucas means 'light bearer.'
'Light bearer' in Latin means Lucifer. I think you'll be
surprised at where I go with this-bear with me. His last
name, 'Ransom,' is a payment given to gain someone's
release. So, this boy's name could 'translate' to the phrase
'devil's ransom.' When I searched that term I came up
with a few bands, of course! Then I scrolled down and
came across a Wikipedia post which treats the theological
concept behind the phrase. (I know Wiki can be a bit off
track sometimes
but this article has a few good points
on the subject.)

The 'devil's ransom' has also been known to describe the
debt payed by Christ's suffering and death for our sins.

After investigating this event, I recalled these prophetic
words given by Our Lady of Akita. These words were
from her last apparition in Japan on October 13, 1973
(Fatima-Miracle of the Sun, anyone?).

"If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no
longer pardon for them."

In a purely symbolic sense; 'Devil's Ransom' died in
California last Friday. One wonders if this horrible tragedy
could also signal a period of pardon which may be expiring
for that state.

We can be sure prayer and penance are continually being
offered by the faithful and united to Christ's Sacrifice for
us. But I wonder if there isn't a message here in this
terrible event that happened in California. Is the amount
of sin-the very epicenter often in California-reaching a
level where pardon is no longer possible? Or perhaps it
is a message to the entire United States considering the
fact that two of the most high profile, immoral politicians
in the country (Barack Obama and Rham Emanuel) were
campaigning there within hours of the attack.
